The Korean golfer KJ Choi has been honoured for his support of relief efforts worldwide, and programmes to help Korean communities.

The award, presented by the Golf Writers Association of America, is given to a professional golfer for contributions to the betterment of society.

The 42-year-old, the first Korean to play full-time on the PGA Tour, set up his own foundation in 2007 with the mission of helping Korean children and communities.

But Choi's reach has extended to global aid for hurricane and tsunami victims to which he's donated millions of dollars.
