Green Moon won't run Melbourne Cup again

7:08 am on 8 November 2012

Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon is unlikely to contest next year's race while former winner Americain has been retired.

Green Moon owner Lloyd Williams says the horse has pulled up well from the race but will go to the spelling paddock before returning for a weight-for-age campaign.

The Cup winner will target races such as the Australian Cup at Flemington in the autumn and the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in the spring but Williams says another Melbourne Cup campaign is unlikely for Green Moon.

Williams says he's likely to now run the 5-year-old in set weight races....

Meanwhile owners of 2010 winner Americain Gerry Ryan and Kevin Bamford have confirmed the French-trained galloper will not race again and will soon begin a stud career.

Other European gallopers will continue their international road show.

Jakkalberry and Mount Athos, who were third and fifth respectively in the Melbourne Cup, now move on to this month's Japan Cup while My Quest For Peace is headed for the Hong Kong Vase.
