Novak Djokovic, the winner of yesterday's Shanghai Masters has closed the gap on Roger Federer in the latest world tennis rankings, as the Swiss star goes into his 300th week as world No.1.

The Serb, who beat the US Open champion Andy Murray in the Shanghai final yesterday, is only 195 points behind Federer, who was beaten in the semi-final of the tournament.

Both men are taking this week off.

Meanwhile, the former world No.2, Germany's Tommy Haas has returned to the top 20 at the age of 34 for the first time since 2010, despite a career which appeared to have been cut short by injuries.

Victoria Azarenka from Belarus remains on top of the womens rankings, well ahead of Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams, of the United States.
