Wins for United, Chelsea, Swansea, Everton and Wigan

Manchester United's won its first game of the new English football season, beating Fulham 3-2 at home with new signing Robin van Persie scoring his first goal.

But United lost star striker Wayne Rooney for around four weeks to a thigh injury.

Chelsea are top of the Premier League with their third win, 2-0 over visitors Newcastle in London.

Elsewhere Swansea City thrashed West Ham 3-0, Everton also got their second win, 3-1 over Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic won 2-0 at Southampton.

Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers drew 1-1 as did Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion, while Sunderland's home game with Reading was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
