Junior Football Ferns name World Cup squad

12:40 pm on 1 August 2012

The New Zealand football have named a 21-strong Junior women's team for the upcoming women's under-20 World Cup.

Coach Aaron McFarland says the Junior Football Ferns will adopt an attacking philosophy at the tournament, which kicks off in Japan in eighteen days.

New Zealand will be among the first nations to get underway at the under-20 World Cup when they face Switzerland on August 19th before a crunch match with host nation Japan three days later in Rifu.

Mexico awaits the Junior Football Ferns in their final group match in Kobe on August the 26th.

The team is hoping to shed their tag as group outsiders and advance to the second round.

There are two players in the squad who're currently on Olympic Games duty with the Football Ferns.

Hannah Wilkinson and Rosie White line up alongside two other overseas-based players in Nadia Pearl and Katie Rood.
