The Australian golfer Marc Leishman fired a final round eight-under-par 62 at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut to clinch his first US PGA Tour victory.

Leishman finished with a 14-under 266, a stroke in front of 2010 winner Bubba Watson and Charley Hoffman, who was 16-under before a double-bogey, bogey finish.

New Zealand number one Danny Lee finished in a disappointing tie for 80th and among 18 golfers who made the cut but missed the third round cut by three shots at the Travelers Championship, which is unusual on the PGA Tour as most events only have a cut after two rounds.

Lee dropped three places to 148th on the Fed Ex Standings and needs to get inside the top 125 to qualify for the first event in early August - the Barclays at the Westchester Country Club.
