NZOC clarifies shooting nomination process

11:27 am on 21 June 2012

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has clarified the shooting nomination and selection process after target shooter Ryan Taylor said he'd consider legal action in a bid to compete at the London Olympics.

No shooters have so far been selected.

Taylor says he's met the qualifying standard but says the NZOC won't pick him as it doesn't believe he's capable of a top 16 placing.

The governing body says the one quota spot for shooting was secured in women's rifle. The athlete that secured the spot hasn't achieved the selection criteria.

The NZOC says the transfer of the quota spot and subsequent nomination process is underway in accordance with the New Zealand Shooting nomination criteria and is not yet complete.

No shooting athlete has yet been nominated to the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

The process is expected to be complete within the next 48 hours.
