The former 10,000 metres world record holder Haile Gebrselassie has failed to qualify for the London Olympics after finishing seventh at the Fanny Blankers-Koen meet in the Netherlands.
The race doubled as the official Ethiopian Olympic trial.
The 39-year-old finished nine seconds behind the winner and admits his dream of competing at his fifth Olympics is over.
Gebrselassie won gold in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.
