Female beach volleyball players will have the option of wearing bikinis at the Olympics.

The International Volleyball Federation says it wants participants to have options to cover up more and will be able to wear shorts and sleeved tops.

Bikinis have helped define the sport but the sports governing body wants to respect the cultural beliefs of various countries.

The women's Olympic beach volleyball tournament in London will be played in a specially created stadium at Horse Guards Parade near Buckingham Palace
