Heavy rain warning lifted for Otago

MetService has lifted a heavy rain warning for Otago and most rivers are falling after peaking overnight.

But Otago Regional Council is warning that the lower Clutha River is still rising and is warning people to be alert to possible flooding.

Farmers say the rainfall has brought more gain than pain after a dry summer.

The Pomohaka River that flows through West and South Otago was one of those that topped their banks over night.

Ian Logan, who farms at Kelso, beside the river, says it's a regular event over the spring and summer.

Lindsay Alderton, another West Otago farmer, says the rain was welcome because the dry spell during December and January hit production.
