Farmers welcome primary industries ministry

6:39 am on 13 December 2011

Federated Farmers regards the creation of a Ministry for Primary Industries is significant, after lobbying the Government for it for several years.

David Carter will keep Agriculture, Forestry and Biosecurity in the new Cabinet.

But he has a new title, the Minister for Primary Industries and has taken on Fisheries and Aquaculture as part of that extended portfolio.

Nathan Guy will be Associate Minister for Primary Industries.

Federation president Bruce Wills says he's pleased all primary industries will now come under the same umbrella. He says he's a sensible pragamatic move.
