Mixed results at North Island wool sale

5:14 am on 11 November 2011

The normal advantages of a weaker New Zealand dollar didn't apply at this week's wool sale, with mixed results for the North Island wool on offer.

New Zealand Wool Services International reports prices for hogget fleece, and 32 to 35 micron shears, were generally lower, except for very short wools which lifted by 4% to 5%.

There was a mixed bag for coarse crossbred wool as well, with some slippage on fleece prices but some shears gaining 2 to 5%, depending on length.

More than 90% of the almost 7000 bales put up for auction were sold, but competition was limited.
