It was a mixed result for New Zealand in a trans-Tasman shearing and wool handling Test at the Royal Show in Perth, Western Australia, at the weekend.
The New Zealand shearing team of Golden Shears champion John Kirkpatrick, of Napier, and South Island shearers Tony Coster, of Rakaia, and Colin O'Neill, of Alexandra, were comprehensively beaten.
The event was the 50th Test against Australia since a formal trans-Tasman series began in 1974.
Australia also won the previous shearing Test at the Golden Shears in Masterton in March.
But the wool-handling team of Joel Henare from Gisborne and Manawatu veteran Ronnie Goss continued New Zealand's six year winning run with another comfortable win over Australia in that event.
Joel Henare also won the Australian open wool handling final.
