The avocado harvest this year is going to be the largest in the industry's history.
About 3.1 million trays are forecast - more than double last year's total.
The harvest in Bay of Plenty started three weeks ago with early lines going into Australia and some fruit from Northland heading to Japan.
Country Life reports fruit size is average and the quality is better than usual.
More fruit will be sent to Japan and into South Asian markets this year and some exporters are putting fruit into the United States.
The avocado season lasts through until February.
