Task Force Green to finish work this week at Wairoa

Task Force Green personnel who have been helping farmers north of Wairoa following a major storm three and a half months ago, finish work this week.

More than 500mm of rain in late April caused massive slips on more than 100 coastal farms in northern and central Hawke's Bay, which ruined paddocks, farm fences, tracks and water supplies.

The Government provided funds for Task Force Green workers and the Rural Support Trust.

Wairoa storm recovery manager Des Jane says fine weather over the past couple of weeks has helped 18 workers complete most of the major work on 45 farms in the region which suffered damage.

Mr Jane says the whole operation has gone smoothly except for a couple of minor work place accidents, and one of the Task Force Green supervisors having a heart attack while on the job.

Hawke's Bay's rural support trust co-ordinator Mike Barham says Task Force Greeen assistance for farmers in central Hawke's Bay will continue until 19 August.
