Federated Farmers will be asking the Government to toss out a proposed national policy statement on biodiversity.
The Environment Ministry released a draft policy statement earlier this year on managing native biodiversity on private land.
Delegates at Federated Farmers' national conference last week supported a call for the Government to withdraw the policy in its current form and replace it with a less specific document.
Hauraki-Coromandel farmers president John Sanford says the current policy is confrontational and a threat to farming, such as provisions which specify protecting all indigenous vegetation, which he says covers "a monstrous amount of stuff."
Mr Sanford also received support for his call for landowners to receive compensation when their property rights are lost to public interest, through orders to protect biodiversity or natural features on their land.
