Nurseries near Te Puke will no longer be able to send kiwifruit plant material to other parts of Bay of Plenty or other kiwifruit growing regions.
The Ministry of Agriculture Forestry has banned the movement of any vines, root stock and budwood, from a priority zone where the PSA vine disease has been detected.
It says the ban is another measure to try to reduce the risk of the spreading the virulent form of the disease.
Manager David Yard says it's been established that plant material and rootstock could carry PSA and relocate it to unaffected orchards.
He says the restrictions don't affect the movement of fruit or kiwifruit pollen.
The disease was first confirmed last November. It has now been found on 239 orchards, 83% of them in the Te Puke region.
