Kiwifruit growers appeal against Tauranga annual plan

7:08 am on 19 May 2011

New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers has lodged an appeal with the Environment Court about Tauranga Council's annual plan.

Chief executive Mike Chapman says the council has largely accepted submissions from the industry.

But about 40 growers with orchards near the city have concerns about several aspects of the plan, including restrictions on earthworks and the placement and colour of artificial shelter.

Mr Chapman says growers want the council's plan to let them to carry on orcharding in the future as they are now.
