New dairy environmental code released

6:28 am on 2 March 2011

The dairy industry has released a set of new standards to clean up its environment performance.

The code of practice and design standards for farm effluent systems have been developed by industry and local body representatives.

Dairy NZ effluent development project manager Theresa Wilson says too many effluent systems have been poorly designed and installed, contributing to the industry's poor environmental image.

Dr Wilson says the new design code will improve effluent management and stop dairy farmers from breaching their resource consent conditions.
