Better outlook seen for venison

Deer Industry New Zealand is seeing potential for some further improvement in venison prices, which are currently higher than a year ago.

Venison marketing services manager Innes Moffat thinks deer numbers are stabilising after dropping significantly over a period of years.

That happened as farmers reduced their herds or got out of deer farming after export prices collapsed because of oversupply.

Mr Moffat says the supply and demand in export markets is back in balance, and that's reflected in the prices farmers are getting.
