Shortage of host farm families for trainees

4:32 pm on 21 August 2010

An organisation that arranges exchange programmes for young agricultural workers may have to turn away a large number of trainees wanting to come to New Zealand this year.

AgriVenture has 80 trainees due to arrive in October from Canada, Britain and Europe to spend six months working on New Zealand farms.

But with only six weeks to go, it's still trying to find places for about 30 of the trainees.

Manager Robyn Baron says it has not been this difficult to find host families before and she thinks it's partly due to economic factors.
