New Zealand remains unbeaten in blade shearing tests against Australia following victory at the Waimate Shears on Saturday.

The latest match resulted in Christchurch's Brian Thomson and Tony Dobbs, of Fairlie, comfortably beating the Australian team for the fourth time in a year.

The test was shorn over four long, strong-wool sheep each.

Dobbs also won the open blade shearing final, while Invercargill shearer Nathan Stratford took out the open machine shearing final for the seventh time.

More than 100 shearers and woolhandlers took part in the shears, which are the second of 60 shows on the Shearing Sports New Zealand calendar this season.

The first North Island competition of the season will be at the Poverty Bay A and P Show in Gisborne from 15 October.
