Wool price rises come to a halt

6:28 am on 21 August 2015

The rise in wool prices seen in recent weeks came to a halt at yesterday's South Island sale.

More than 9,500 bales of wool were auctioned, with about 80 percent selling.

However, the larger supply of mostly cross-bred wool on offer, and more subdued demand from buyers, pushed crossbred fleece prices back by 2 to 3 percent and second shear wool by up to 1 percent.

The export, New Zealand Wool Services International, said there was good support for smaller volumes of Halfbred and Merino wool on offer.
