Wool prices picking up

7:02 am on 21 November 2014

Prices at this week's South Island wool sale have firmed up a bit, after taking a hit from a rising New Zealand dollar at last week's North Island auction.

The exchange rate had a minimal impact on yesterday's sale.

Mid micron fleece was 1 to 6 percent dearer, and prices for cross bred fleece and shears sold for up to 2 or 3 percent more.

However, a small offering of merino fleece was 4 percent cheaper.

Just over three-quarters of the 7400 bales on offer sold, showing that some sellers are still holding back on letting their wool go at current prices.
