Big day out for horticulturalists

7:14 am on 5 June 2014

Growers and others from the fruit and vege sectors will be able to catch up on the latest in horticultural technology at the National Horticultural Field Day in Hastings.

The field day, at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds, kicks off on Thursday with a sold out breakfast event.

There will be a 60-site trade display and a number of seminars, including sessions on the big issue of the moment in Hawke's Bay - irrigation and the Rutaniwha dam.

Hawke's Bay A&P Society general manager Brent Linn said the day had been growing since it became a national event three years ago and he expected about 3000 people to attend.

Practical challenges for the Hawke's Bay young fruit grower competition will also be running at the event.
