The extensive Queensland fruit fly hunt response in Northland is over - with weeks of intensive searching revealing no further flies.

A Queensland fruit fly was found at Parihaka in Whangarei on April 1.

It was the second Queensland fruit fly found there this year.

On Sunday, the Ministry for Primary Industries ended its movement restrictions on fruit and vegetables in the surrounding area.

The Ministry says it still doesn't know how the two flies got into the country and that it's working with horticultural industries to try and figure out the likely entry route.

It will also increase the number of insect traps it has in the region.
