The Northland Rural Support Trust and the Ministry for Primary Industry will be monitoring weather conditions on a weekly basis as farms in some parts of the region come under increasing pressure from lack of rain.
Northland was the first to be officially declared a drought region last summer.
While some eastern areas have had good growing conditions this summer, the west coast has largely missed out on rain.
Trust co-ordinator Julie Jonker said even parts of Northland that have been doing well so far are starting to dry out.
The trust and the ministry had a conference call on Thursday and agreed on the need to keep a close watch.
The trust will also help to organise grazing for farms running short of feed.
