The country's biggest A& P show opened in Canterbury on Wednesday for its 151st year with more than 600 trade exhibits - a record number.
Event director Geoff Bone says judging by the size of the crowd drawn there by the sunny weather, it may have had its biggest opening day attendance as well.
He says the rural community has come out in force to support the show.
Mr Bone says the forecast is for the fine weather to continue through is Canterbury Anniversary Day on Friday, which is when the townies flock to the show.
