The British-based wing of Heinz Foods says its transferring some of its infant milk formula production to New Zealand.

The global food company has announced that 45 employees at a factory in Cumbria, north-west England, will lose their jobs as production and packaging of infant milk formula for China will be done under contract by Fonterra.

Heinz said it was no longer able to compete in the Asian and Far East markets and the move is designed to increase the company's efficiency.
