McDonald's has removed the Serious Lamb Burger from its permanent menu in New Zealand due to poor demand.
Federated Farmers said that while it's sad news for sheep farmers it hopes McDonalds will one-day roll out the burger to other markets where lamb is widely consumed.
Farmers had been hoping the lamb burger would prove as popular as McDonald's angus beef range.
In 2012, McDonald's announced it had purchased more than two million kg of angus beef from New Zealand farmers over three years.
Federated Farmers estimates the business is worth about $500 million per year to farmers.
