Canterbury dairy company Synlait Milk says a new farm assurance system it's introduced for its 150 suppliers will bring them significant financial gains.
Synlait launched its internationally accredited ISO 65 scheme last week, a first for New Zealand and Australia.
Chief executive John Penno says it's aiming to have more than 30 certified suppliers within a year and farmers who reach the top level can expect to increase their incomes by up to 44 cents a kilo of milk solids.
Dr Penno says to gain accreditation farmers have to prove themselves in four areas (milk quality, environment, animal health & welfare and social responsibility).
