The Kiwifruit Vine Health organisation says there's real benefit for the kiwifruit industry in having a second symposium in six months to discuss research being done on the vine killing disease PSA.
A symposium organised by Plant Protection Society is being held in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday, with 150 kiwifruit growers and industry representatives registered to attend.
KVH chief executive Barry O'Neil said having scientists from both New Zealand and Italy who have been studying PSA, all in the one room, will be great value.
The meeting will canvass the latest research which has been completed or is underway.
Dr O'Neil said that though much of the recent work had been aimed at helping orchardists farm through the challenges presented by the canker, he was keen to also see some of the more fundamental research.
This could include basic epidemiology, how PSA impacted on vines, how the disease interacted with cold weather, and why growers are seeing flower-drop on "green" cultivars in some locations.
