More focus on rural issues needed in vulnerable children white paper

Rural Women New Zealand has welcomed the Government's White Paper for Vulnerable Children, saying it moves the ambulance nearer to the top of the cliff.

But it says there is still some way to go to address specific issues for rural children.

Rural Women spokesperson Pam Thomlinson says in particular there needs to be enough funding to give rural communities the same access as urban people to services such as post-natal and ante-natal care and school support.

Ms Thomlinson says on the positive side, rural women applaud the more co-ordinated approach to protecting vulnerable children, with local multi-disciplinary children's teams and more training for professionals.
