Silver Fern Farms seeks to continue UK success

New Zealand's biggest meat processor and exporter wants to continue to build on the initial success of its branded chilled lamb products in the United Kingdom.

Last September, Silver Fern Farms began supplying Tesco supermarkets with several cuts of lamb.

The supermarket chain is the largest in the UK and commands about 30% of the market.

Silver Fern Farms retail category manager Grant Howie says Tesco has not only confirmed its initial six month contract will continue, but has agreed to expand the range of products.

He says the company is providing very similar cuts to those available in New Zealand and targets UK consumers with recipe ideas.

Mr Howie says a new product, lamb medallions, has just been launched in the UK and sales figures show it's already become Silver Fern Farm's number one product.

He says getting the Silver Fern Farms brand into Tesco supermarkets was a major coup because it's the first time Tesco has put any fresh meat product onto their shelves that didn't have the Tesco brand on it.
