Fan trail to Eden Park draws record numbers

The Rugby World Cup walking trail from Auckland city to Eden Park stadium drew record crowds for Saturday's semi-final match and people have been out in force in the main fan zones.

Nearly 11,000 rugby fans are watching the France versus Wales game, at Queens Wharf, in Auckland.

The spill over crowds have had to be directed to Captain Cook wharf, because of near capacity numbers at Queens Wharf.

The Auckland Council says there are nearly 3000 people using Captain Cook wharf, and a further 5500 in the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter.

Spokesperson David Anderson says 11,000 people have used the 4.5 kilometre walking or fan trail from Auckland City to Eden Park, toppling the numbers set during the All Blacks versus France match.

He says there are 1400 people using the regional fan zone in Albany, and just under 1000 at Mangere.

Mr Anderson says there have been no issues with crowd control.
