Work has begun to place the the controversial multi-million dollar waka-shaped Rugby World Cup pavilion on Auckland's waterfront.
The almost $2 million cultural showpiece for the Rugby World Cup is a joint venture between Ngati Whatua o Orakei and the Government.
Ngati Whatua o Orakei says construction barriers have been put up at Te Wero Island, near the Queens Wharf party central venue.
It says the structure itself has been dismantled in a warehouse in South Auckland and will be brought to the site next week.
Labour MP Shane Jones has described the structure as a last-minute, panic-stricken stunt.
The structure, will be more than 70 metres long and more than 16 metres high and is made of a type of PVC - which designers have said is the same high-tech fabric as used in the party central venue, The Cloud.
Offficial events will start at the site on 13 October.
