South Africa easily beat Fiji in their Rugby World Cup pool D match in Wellington on Saturday night, running out winners by 49-3.
South Africa led 21-3 at halftime.
On a fine night at Wellington Regional Stadium the Springboks scored six tries, five of them converted, and three penalties (one of them, by Frans Steyn, from eight metres inside his own half) to Fiji's single penalty.
The South Africans had tackled themselves to a standstill last week against Wales on the way to a 17-16 win and assistant coach Gary Gold had said he did not want a similar performance against Fiji.
Taking his advice, the team dominated the breakdown and provided halfback Fourie du Preez superb quality ball to free his hard-running backline for seizing their scoring opportunities when they arose.
The bonus-point win takes South Africa to the top of pool D.
Fijian winger Naipolioni Nalaga had two tries disallowed - the first for a forward pass and the second when he dropped the ball over the line.
The police say the large crowd was well-behaved and had a good time. There was just one arrest and four evictions.
