Police are still searching for a driver who used two different cars to flee through rush-hour traffic in Auckland, a spokesperson says.
A motorway patrol tried to stop a car which had been reported driving erratically on the Northern Motorway just before 8am today.
The vehicle was pursued to Glenfield, on the North Shore, where the driver abandoned the car and stole another from a resident in Velma Road.
He then headed towards Devonport, where witnesses saw nine patrol cars heading along Lake Road in pursuit.
The police say they abandoned the chase due to safety concerns after the man drove on the wrong side of the road in rush hour traffic.
