A woman has been identified as the person injured when hit by a rental car, an incident only discovered when the damaged car was returned to a rental centre in Auckland.
Staff called police when the vehicle was handed back with a damaged bonnet and smashed windscreen.
After investigating, the police said the car hit someone eight days ago on Great North Road.
They had now spoken to the woman, who was not seriously injured and who was helped by a member of the public.
The police had also spoken to the driver of the rental car but would not yet comment on whether any charges will be laid.
