The Labour Party says it would put a temporary freeze on the increasing use of civilians in the Defence Force.
Labour today released its Defence Policy for the election, including a moratorium on what it is known as civilianisation in the Defence Force.
Labour's Defence spokesperson Iain Lees-Galloway says the Government's Value for Money review suggested 1500 current positions could be held by civilians rather than Defence Force personnel.
But he says civilians can not serve overseas, and the plan could affect the Defence Force's ability to deploy overseas.
Mr Lees-Galloway says Labour would review the use of civilians in the Defence Force, before deciding whether to continue with it.
