No fat tax here - Govt

The New Zealand Government has no plans to introduce a fat tax like that in Denmark.

A surcharge has been imposed there on foods high in saturated fat in a bid to limit the population's intake of fatty foods.

It adds 16 kroner ($NZ3.80) per kg of saturated fats in a product.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says a fat tax in New Zealand would add to the burden of many families in tight economic times.
