The State Services Commission has satisfied itself the appointment of Finance Minister Bill English's brother Mervyn to a senior position with the Ministry of Health was in line with proper procedure.

State Services Minister Tony Ryall asked for advice about the employment of Mr English and another consultant, Paul McCormack.

Mr Ryall says he has now received verbal advice from the Commissioner confirming that he considers both appointments were in line with the Ministry's internal policies and procedures.

Mr English's contract as executive director of the Health Sector Forum is a fixed term one and is due to expire at the end of next month, after which a permanent position will be advertised.

The ministry says Mr McCormack was engaged as a consultant to provide specialist clinical advice for a specific project and his contract is up to June next year.
