The Labour Party is ruling out any political deal to make it easier for New Zealand First's return to Parliament.
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says he will announce later in August which electorate he will stand in for the general election on 26 November.
Radio New Zealand understands he will contest the Auckland seat of Te Atatu, held by former Labour MP, and now independent, Chris Carter.
A member of New Zealand First says Mr Peters will definitely run for an Auckland seat - but not Epsom or Helensville, because John Banks and Prime Minister John Key are likely to win those seats.
Labour leader Phil Goff says his party will not be doing any deals with Mr Peters, in that seat or anywhere else, and will stand a candidate in every electorate.
Mr Goff is also ruling out any agreement to campaign for the party vote only in selected seats, as National has done with United Future leader Peter Dunne in Ohariu and Mr Banks in Epsom.
He says there should not be "stitch-ups" before the election between political parties and voters should be left to decide for themselves.
More than 300 people attended a conference of New Zealand First in Auckland at the weekend.
