Fresh approach to industrial relations urged by CTU

The Council of Trade Unions has urged the Labour Party to take a fresh approach to industrial relations and make it easier for employees to bargain collectively.

CTU president Helen Kelly addressed Labour's election year Congress on Sunday morning.

She took aim at the Government, claiming it treats employers as benefactors and employees as beneficiaries.

Ms Kelly said there needs to be a new approach to industrial relations, which will allow more employees to be covered by the standards negotiated in collective agreements.

She also called on Labour to scrap the 90-day trial period for new employees, reverse moves to privatise the Accident Compensation Corporation and move swiftly to a minimum wage of $15 per hour.
