The union representing retail workers has described a proposed member's bill to allow Easter trading on Good Friday as a complete time waster.
National MP Tau Henare plans to submit a bill which will be presented at the party's next caucus meeting on 3 May.
The National Distribution Union says eight bills attempting to liberalise Easter trading since 1996 have been voted down.
NDU general secretary Robert Reid says it is unfair to give retailers the right to make people work on Easter holidays, thereby taking them away from their families.
Most shops must remain closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Exemptions apply for convenience, souvenir and duty free stores, pharmacies and shops in premises where there are bona fide shows or exhibitions.
