Louisa Wall confirmed as new Labour list MP

8:49 pm on 6 April 2011

The Electoral Commission has confirmed that the Labour Party's new list MP will be Louisa Wall.

Ms Wall was widely tipped to take Darren Hughes' place, after the Labour Party encouraged former MP Judith Tizard and four other people on its list to stand aside in her favour.

Ms Tizard announced on Sunday that she would not return to Parliament, but criticised the party for its handling of the situation.

Ms Wall was briefly an MP in 2008 when she replaced a retiring Labour MP and is standing for Manurewa at the general election on 26 November.

She is a former New Zealand netball and rugby international.

Mr Hughes has formally resigned from Parliament while police investigate a complaint of sexual assault against him made by an 18-year-old man.
