Party repair work required, whatever - Flavell

9:00 am on 22 February 2011

Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell says bridges will need to be built within the party, no matter what decision is made on the fate of Hone Harawira.

On Wednesday the party's national council will consider a recommendation from its disputes and disciplinary committee, which could result in the expulsion of the Te Tai Tokerau MP.

Mr Flavell, whose complaint against Mr Harawira initiated the committee procedure, will not say what he wants to see happen, but predicts there will be fallout no matter what the party decides.

He says any decision to punish or expel Mr Harawira should not be taken lightly.

Mr Flavell says making the complaint was a hard decision but he has had expressions of support from members of the public.

Mr Harawira did not attend the committee meeting and is not commenting.

The committee's chair, Te Orohi Paul, says it is up to the national council to make a final decision on Mr Flavell's complaint, and the committee will be suggesting a few scenarios for it to consider.
