Disagreement over plan for Archives and National Library

1:25 pm on 22 November 2010

A parliamentary select committee has been unable to reach unanimous agreement on a plan to bring Archives New Zealand and the National Library under the control of the Department of Internal Affairs.

In the education and science committee's report on the State Sector Management Bill, the Labour and Green parties have published minority views opposing the move.

Labour's state services spokesperson Grant Roberton says the change will undermine the independence of Archives New Zealand and the National Library.
