New Zealand is backing the United Kingdom in its condemnation of People's Republic of China (PRC) state-backed malicious cyber activity, but won't be introducing sanctions.

Judith Collins on Tuesday revealed a previously unreported attack, in which a PRC state-sponsored group known as APT40 breached the New Zealand Parliamentary network in 2021.

GCSB director Andrew Clark told reporters some information was removed from the networks during the attack, but that it was not sensitive or strategic in nature.
