The government has welcomed regulations coming into force that require manufacturers and retailers to publish installation and use information about some building products.
The Building Product Information Requirements were passed as an Order in Council in June 2022, with an 18-month lead-in time to give the sector time to prepare, coming into force on 11 December.
They mean products like cladding, insulation, fixings, roofing products, structural steed and wood products and plumbing to have information about how the products should be installed and used made publicly available on the internet.
They must also be able to provide evidence for claims made about the products.
These requirements apply to manufacturers, importers, distributors or retailers.
In a statement, Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk welcomed the new requirements, saying they would lead to fewer defects, less rework, more efficient consenting, and safer more durable buildings.
"Easily accessible information on building products will help designers, builders and consumers choose the right products for their needs, install them correctly and make informed decisions about the products they use in future," he said.
"These changes will help to deliver on the government's aim to boost housing supply and affordability, improve confidence within the building sector and put in place systems and processes to speed up consenting for efficient building processes."
Temporary building products discarded after construction, modular components, and certain other building products are exempt.
